Riyad Mahrez threatens to leave: I don't enjoy sitting on Manchester City bench

Image
Riyad Mahrez has admitted he is disappointed with spending more time on the bench rather than on the pitch.

The 28-year-old joined City in a then club-record fee of $60m from Leicester City in the summer of 2018 but have found competition for places much tougher than expected.

He is forced to compete with Portuguese superstar Bernando Silva and Germany's wonder-kid Leroy Sane.

Last season, Mahrez managed 27 appearances of which 13 of those games were from the bench. This season, he has started just five games out of 12 and against Liverpool, he was an unused substitute.

Asked about his time at City, Mahrez said: "At the end of the season, i spent several matches on the bench", he told the Mirror.

"Mentally, it was difficult to live with. But in training, i put everything into it because i still had this aim with Algeria. I said to myself: 'Go for it, at one-moment Pep {Guardiola} will need you."

Asked about his relationship with Pep Guardiola, Mahrez said: "He's really very simple.

"He is a winner, he is there to make us progress. Guardiola, he'll explain everything to us, decrypt everything, from A to Z, with the aim of facilitating the match.

"He is focused on the game, i love meetings with the coach. The video with him is fascinating because we constantly learn. The dressing room of a big club is another reality. You have to fight non-stop. Being relaxed isn't tolerated."

Last season, Mahrez created history by becoming the first player to win the English domestic treble along with the Africa Cup of Nation with Algeria.

Mahrez scored 3 goals with 2 assists to end Algerian's 25-year wait to win a Continental trophy.

He added: "I'm looking to do more because if you don't, you know someone else will play instead of you.  To make a good match, it is not enough anymore, it is necessary to make very, very good matches all the time. That's Manchester City".

Mahrez is currently with the Algeria national team and will be contention to start agaisnt Zambia in Group H of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Thursday night.

PSG are reportedly monitory Liverpool's sensational attacker Sadio Mane who they feel possess the world class ability to replace Neymar.  Neymar will certainly rejoin Barcelona, it is just a matter of time and PSG don't want to be on the losing side and have already began holding talks with Sadio's agent. Signing Mane won't be easy, he is currently playing for the best club in the world; have lots of friends at Anfield who are mostly Africans and have lifted the biggest trophy in European football- The Champions League.  You can say he is very relaxed at Liverpool and loves the type of football they currently play.  The 27-year-old Senegalese international was once asked about leaving Liverpool, he replied:  "Why would i want to leave Liverpool?  "The way they play i can't see any team beating them and i really don't want to be facing them with another team".  Mane is right with that assertion, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool is very h...

Marco Materazzi is right! Barcelona is no longer a team but a one man club

Take out Lionel Messi from Barcelona and you will be marveled how low the club have fallen. The Bluagrana giants no longer have the spine that won they trophies and made them the most dominant club in the world. Right now, everything depends on Messi and how fit he is. He is expected to be back against Inter Milan and once again lead Barcelona to victory. Leo is the world best player, some might agree with that statement others might disagree but ever since he burst into the world scene 15 years ago, he has always been and continues to be the best. Most Barcelona coach have been tempted to let Messi do everything but the smart one's realized over time that Messi is not the team but just an integral part of it. They understood they have to promote talented players from their academy {Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquet, Gerard Pique and so on..} or sign superstars like {Ivan Rakitic, Jordi Alba, Ter- Stegan, Luis Suarez and others} to help Messi and Barcelona wi...
