Chamberlian is on fire and 5 things we learnt as Liverpool thrash Genk 4-1

Image
Liverpool have beaten Genk 4-1 to further underline their intentions this season. The Reds will not exit the competition in the group stage but rather., they will attempt to retain the Champions League just like Real Madrid did before.

Man of the match will certainly go to Oxlade Chamberlian who registered his first Champions League goal in just two minutes of play before scoring what will go down as the best Champions League goal of the season.. His 35-yard spinning lob took everyone by surprising including Genk's keeper who stood still as the ball flown past him and into the net.

Those two goals opened the floodgate for Sadio Mane to score a lob before Mohamed Salah rounded up the party. But Genk did get a consolation goal through Stephan Odey.

Here are the five things we learnt:

1. Xaby Keita  and Oxlade Chamberlian deserve to start against Tottenham Hotspur-

For the first time this season, Liverpool moved the ball with lots of creativity and pace.. Naby Keita was just exceptional, he orchestrated the tempo of the game and ensured Liverpool were in full control. Chamberlian meanwhile scored two fantastic goals, something no Liverpool player have achieved this season..

The last midfielder to score two goals in a single match was Gini Wijnaldum back in 2018 agaisnt Barcelona in the Champions League semi final return leg.

2. Liverpool need Joel Matip back, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are error prone-

Against Gink, the cracks were visibly.. Van Dijk was aerially beaten by Genk's tall center forward while Samatta's movement and pace exposed Liverpool's vulnerable back line.

If Liverpool had faced a better opposition they would've been beaten.. Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren are both good defenders but agaisnt pacy and stronger attackers they make mistakes which always leads to goals.

3. Sadio Mane is a phenomenal, he scores a ratio of one goal a game-

Sadio Mane is an exceptional footballer and agaisnt Genk, he showed why most pundits laud as the world best left forward.

Mane's movement, pace and top notch dribbling skills was just breathtaking.. He scored a sensational goal, reminiscent of Lionel Messi by lobbing the on rushing keeper.. What made the goal special was the intricate passing between Wijnaldum, Firmino, Salah and then Mane.. It was just special.

4. James Milner deserve a new contract, his versatility is key to Liverpool's progress-

Milner was outstanding today. He defended, attacked and later switched from right back to left back.. Liverpool need Milner and Klopp knows this. T

5. Genk is a fantastic team to watch-

They might have lost 4-1 to Liverpool but their overall play was outstanding.. There's no doubt, the team will get better overtime and probably reach the Champions League round of 16 next season.

Europe League beckons: Why Jurgen Klopp is very worried about Salzburg

The reigning European champions are on the verge of exiting the competitions in the round of 16.  Liverpool could become the second team in 10 years to exit the Champions League in the group stage since AC Milan. But to prevent that from happening Jurgen Klopp's men must beat Salzburg at Red Bull Arena which frankly is no easy feat.  Salzburg is no push over and Klopp know this. He watched as Jesse Marsch men came back from a 3-0 defeat in the first half to draw 3-3 in the second half. It took a moment of pure genius from Mohamed Salah to find the winning goal and salvage respect from the home side.  Now, Austria team have an opportunity to create history, they've the chance to dump Liverpool out of the Champions League by beating them at home and progressing to the round of 16.  It won't be easy though but why would you doubt them knowing that Liverpool's defence is very weak and porous.  This season, the Reds have played 9 games at Anfield...
