Why Emre Can's decision to leave Liverpool for Juventus have backfired

Image
April 28, 2018 was the day Emre Can decided his time at Liverpool was over. He felt Jurgen Klopp's Reds weren't good enough to win trophies neither do they've the luck needed to win it final.

The 2018 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid was heart wrenching remembering how it all ended. Loris Karius high profile mistake condemned Liverpool to their fourth successive defeat in a cup final. T

That defeat was Jurgen Klopp's seventh defeat in a cup competition since he won the 2012 DFK-Pokal with Borrusia Dortmund.

For a while, leaving Liverpool was justifiable, Emre Can saw Manchester City dominating the English league while predicting Liverpool will crumble just like Tottenham Hotspur who are yet to get themselves after losing the Champions League final.

Emre Can wasn't the only player that thought that way, Philippe Coutinho also decided he had to go to a bigger and better club which he did and we all know how that ended.

But, the green is not always greener at the other side and Emre Can now knows he made the biggest mistake in ditching Liverpool for Juventus.

At Juventus he is disposable, Maurizio Sarri want more than just buccaneering runs and aggressive play in midfield, he wants a player who is tactically and technically good. A player who knows how to keep the ball, play short passes, orchestrate the tempo of the game with his trickery and intelligence.

Emre Can is not that type of player, he is more of Jordan Henderson than Christian Ericksen and far inferior to the likes of Frenkie de Jong or Luka Modric. This is one of the reason he dropped him for the group stage of the Champions League.

Simply put, Can's style of play is not good enough for the likes of  Maurzio Sarri, Pep Guardiola or Ernesto Valverde. But good enough for the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simone and Massimiliano Allegri- managers who want runners in midfield and not artists.

Painfully, the 26-year-old now knows he has limitations, he is not a world class midfielder but a good combative midfielder.

He would certainly leave Juventus this summer and hopefully, he will join a club where he can harness his strength and not necessary about winning trophies.

Roberto Mancini reveals what Liverpool must fear about Manchester City

Roberto Mancini has warned Liverpool fans not to rule out Manchester City in the race to win the Premier League title.  City are eleven points off Liverpool after 14 games played and many have already ruled them out of winning the trophy.  Mancini who lifted City's first league title in 44 years feel the club can still surpass Liverpool have done twice in history. They did it under Manuel Pellegrini {2013-14} and again under Pep Guardiola {2018-19}.  Buttressing his point, he said: "I think that Liverpool in the last two years are a strong team", he told Sky Sports News.  "But i remember last year in November and December Manchester City were seven points behind Liverpool.  "The Premier League is a very difficult championship. Should Manchester City pay £80m for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu?

Leicester City has reportedly rejected Manchester City's £38m bid to sign their highly rated defender Caglar Soyuncu.  According to the Sun, the foxes want City to up their bid to £80-90m for the 23-year-old Turkish international who they feel possess similar quality to Harry Maguire {£80m} and Virgil van Dijk {£75m}.  Soyuncu is without doubt a top football who is growing in strength and stature under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers. But with City struggling in their defensive unit due to injuries to their top defenders Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, the need to sign a defender is now a priority.  But signing Soyuncu for £80m looks too desperate and a to many a complete waste of money.  So should City sign him for £80m or less?

O'Hara: Harry Kane will join Manchester City and not Liverpool

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara can see Harry Kane joining a title winning team in no distant future..  Roy Keane might have suggested Manchester United sign the England captain but O'Hara feels Kane will go to a more established club where he can start winning trophies and not a club a struggling club. Liverpool is also an attractive option but they've to prove this season they're good enough to compete with Manchester City on the domestic fronts.  Speaking to talkSPORT, O'Hara said: "I think if he is going to go it's going to be Man City; it's only Man City, for me, who can probably get him.  "Aguero is coming to the end and Jesus is a different type of player, so if they are to get somebody it would be Harry Kane. But does he want to leave Tottenham? And can they let him go? I don't think they can".
