Why Emre Can's decision to leave Liverpool for Juventus have backfired

Image
April 28, 2018 was the day Emre Can decided his time at Liverpool was over. He felt Jurgen Klopp's Reds weren't good enough to win trophies neither do they've the luck needed to win it final.

The 2018 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid was heart wrenching remembering how it all ended. Loris Karius high profile mistake condemned Liverpool to their fourth successive defeat in a cup final. T

That defeat was Jurgen Klopp's seventh defeat in a cup competition since he won the 2012 DFK-Pokal with Borrusia Dortmund.

For a while, leaving Liverpool was justifiable, Emre Can saw Manchester City dominating the English league while predicting Liverpool will crumble just like Tottenham Hotspur who are yet to get themselves after losing the Champions League final.

Emre Can wasn't the only player that thought that way, Philippe Coutinho also decided he had to go to a bigger and better club which he did and we all know how that ended.

But, the green is not always greener at the other side and Emre Can now knows he made the biggest mistake in ditching Liverpool for Juventus.

At Juventus he is disposable, Maurizio Sarri want more than just buccaneering runs and aggressive play in midfield, he wants a player who is tactically and technically good. A player who knows how to keep the ball, play short passes, orchestrate the tempo of the game with his trickery and intelligence.

Emre Can is not that type of player, he is more of Jordan Henderson than Christian Ericksen and far inferior to the likes of Frenkie de Jong or Luka Modric. This is one of the reason he dropped him for the group stage of the Champions League.

Simply put, Can's style of play is not good enough for the likes of  Maurzio Sarri, Pep Guardiola or Ernesto Valverde. But good enough for the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simone and Massimiliano Allegri- managers who want runners in midfield and not artists.

Painfully, the 26-year-old now knows he has limitations, he is not a world class midfielder but a good combative midfielder.

He would certainly leave Juventus this summer and hopefully, he will join a club where he can harness his strength and not necessary about winning trophies.

Why Harry Kane must consider joining Manchester City as Sergio Aguero's replacement

Harry Kane has reached the stage of his career when he has to think deeply about his future and ask himself if sticking with Tottenham Hotspur beyond this season will be good for his career or not.  The England international captain have spent 10 years at Spurs and only once have he come close to winning a meaningful trophy {2019 Champions League}. But in those years, Kane has developed into one of Europe's  top striker.  With Spurs he has scored 171 goals in 263 appearances and won the golden boot in 2 of the last 3 seasons.  Kane is top class striker but he knows he has to win trophies to become one of the best player in the world. He knows scoring goals without winning meaningful trophies is tantamount to a wasted career.  Players remember the number of trophies they won when they retire while fans idolize them for the trophy they managed to win for the club and their key contributions in winning them.  Kane knows he is already a legend at Tot...

Pep Guardiola praises Liverpool duo Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson

Pep Guardiola has lauded praises on Liverpool' sensational fullback Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson.  Both fullbacks have provided the width and creativity currently lacking in Reds team midfield. They have created more assists than all of Liverpool midfielders combined {23 to 6}.  In fact, Arnold has a Guinness World Record for the most assist by a defender in a single season {13}.  Guardiola is fully aware of their attacking prowess and has decided to praise them.  "The quality they have. If you play high, they get in behind. They are so fast", Guardiola said during his press conference.  'Alexander-Arnold and Robertson are incredible crosses. They have fantastic headers, they win second balls. It's a real complete team".

Chamberlian or Henderson: Who should Jurgen Klopp start against Manchester City?

For the first time in 30 years Liverpool have a realistic chance of wining the Premier League title and on Sunday that dream might come true at Anfield. They play Manchester City, a world class team built by the world's finest manager in Pep Guardiola who is attempting to win a third consecutive league title. If Liverpool win, they stretch their lead to nine points after 12 games and further cement their hold on the lead. A draw won't be that bad for either side and league, cause the likes of Liecester City and Chelsea will further reduce the point gap at the top to 8 and 9 point respectively. But to avoid a defeat, Jurgen Klopp will have to decide if starting Jordan Henderson will better than the inform Oxlade Chamberlian.  Jordan H enderson  Henderson might not the most creative player in Liverpool team nor the fastest, strongest or the most intelligent player but, he offers Jurgen Klopp something no other midfielder offers.  He will run into ...

Sadio Mane is a superhero and 5 things we learnt as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-1

What a comeback! Liverpool have beaten Aston Villa 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.  The game was good to watch as both side created chances and had attempts on goal. Aston Villa found the back of the net from a set piece scored by Mahmoud Hassan who found the back of the net with a good strike.  65 minutes and Aston Villa still had the ascendancy which forced Jurgen Klopp to take off Mohamed Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and later Adam Lallana for Oxlade Chamberlian, Divock Origi and Naby Keita.  All three changes might Liverpool had to go for the kill and boy! did they.. In the 87th minute, a sublime cross from Sadio Mane found Andrew Robertson who powered in the equalizer and later, Mane finished the rest with a fantastic header..  Liverpool win and now have six points lead over Manchester City who they play next at Anfield.  Here are the five things we learnt 1. Sadio Mane is a super hero but he has to stop going down easily-  ...

Will Alexander Arnold become Liverpool's greatest captain?

Trent Alexander Arnold emboldens everything about Liverpool as a city and a club. He is a scouser, the only one currently plying his trade at Liverpool.  The last scouser to play for Liverpool and still regarded as the greatest of all captains is Steven Gerrard. Arnold is emulating Steven Gerrard's heroics and leading Liverpool to trophies.  At the moment, he is the most creative player at Liverpool and the only player capable of scoring a free kick, accurately play cross field balls or diagonal balls. His set piece are exceptional while his shoots are like rockets.  Added to that, Arnold holds the Guinness World Record for the most assists in a single season [13}. Funny enough, Arnold's first assist in Liverpool colours was in the league cup against Leeds United which the Reds went on to win.. The man who scored his assists was Divock Origi- A true legend.  The England international might be 21-years-old but he is the first and only player in...

Finally, Gareth Bale ruins Real Madrid legendary status with stupid flag

Who in the world advised Gareth Bale to carry a banner inscribed: "Wales. Golf. Madrid", minutes after the nation qualified for the 2020 Euros.  Bale's decision was ill-advised and now he never be regarded in the same breath as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Marcelo or even Isco. He disrespected the club that gave him all he has and made him who is today.  The trophies {13 titles including 4 Champions League and 4 FIFA World Club Cup}, the money {over $120m in wages} and the wide world appeal that attracted endorsement deals to him.  No doubt, the 32-year-old have created unbelievable memories like that sensational winning goal against Barcelona in 2013 Copa Del Rey, the overhead kick and long range stunner against Liverpool to win Madrid their 13th Champions League trophy.  But in-spite of those memorable moments, Bale has spent 2 years out of his 6 years at Madrid in the treatment table. He is always injured and hardly fit to play games.  His sa...

1 win in 13 games! Can Liverpool really beat Manchester United at Old Trafford?

Since 2009, Liverpool have succeeded in beating Manchester Untied just once in 11 meetings.. The Red devils have won 9 games, drawn 3 and lost once back in 2009.  Head to head, Manchester United have the better advantage against Liverpool having scored 26 goals as agaisnt Liverpool's 8 at Old Trafford. They've kept more clean sheets {5}, came back from a losing position {4} and scored more than 3 or more goals {4}.  Statistically, Manchester Untied have a better chance of beating Liverpool at the moment than the reverse.  Why? United have everything riding on this game. They've to win to save Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job and secondly must win not to drop into the relegation zone.  A win for United is a must or its going to end catastrophic for Solskjaer and his troops.  Liverpool meanwhile can leave with a defeat or draw but Klopp would want more. He will want his team to keep the momentum going and equal Manchester City's 18 match winning s...
