Ballon d'Or is bullshit: Messi shouldn't have won it ahead of Van Dijk and Ronaldo

Image
Another year, another catastrophic decision made by the Ballon d'Or organisers who gave the once prestigious trophy to a player who don't deserve to win it.

Its really embarrassing to know that Lionel Messi won the award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk who both outperformed him with both club and country.

Cristiano Ronaldo was arguably the best of trio having won trophies with both club and country. The 34-year-old captained Portugal to the inaugural Nation's League against Holland and lifted two domestic trophies with Juventus.

Added to that, the Seria A Player needs just 6 goals to become the highest goalscorer in International football and yet, Lionel Messi who only lifted the La Liga title with Barcelona beat him to the Ballon d'or? It doesn't make sense..

No disrespect to Messi he is an incredible player, he scored 46 goals with 17 assists in a season that saw Barcelona heavily rely on him for inspiration and goals.

He single-handily won the La Liga title for them but just couldn't do in the Copa Del Rey final or Champions League semi final where he faced Liverpool's best player Virgil van Dijk

Van Dijk was colossal, the dutch captain turned Liverpool's once leaking defense into the best in the world by shoring up the back and helping the likes of Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander Arnold and Joel Matip improve tremendously.

Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren are now top defenders and this is down to Van Dijk.

What makes Van Dijk better than Ronaldo and Messi is that the dutch captain improves everybody and not just himself.. There's no defender or fullback that won't improve playing alongside Van Dijk, he just makes everybody good.

Sadly, that world class ability have been overlooked for marketing, media attention and endorsement deals.

In all honesty, winning the Ballon d'Or does not prove a player is the best in the world, it a useless trophy that currently have no value.

If the likes of Wesley Sniejder {2010}, Didier Drogba {2012) Franck Riberty {2013) Manuel Neuer {2014}, Gigi Buffon {2016} and Van Dijk {2018} have all been denied from winning it just to compensate Messi and Ronaldo then of what value is it to football?

Roberto Mancini reveals what Liverpool must fear about Manchester City

Roberto Mancini has warned Liverpool fans not to rule out Manchester City in the race to win the Premier League title.  City are eleven points off Liverpool after 14 games played and many have already ruled them out of winning the trophy.  Mancini who lifted City's first league title in 44 years feel the club can still surpass Liverpool have done twice in history. They did it under Manuel Pellegrini {2013-14} and again under Pep Guardiola {2018-19}.  Buttressing his point, he said: "I think that Liverpool in the last two years are a strong team", he told Sky Sports News.  "But i remember last year in November and December Manchester City were seven points behind Liverpool.  "The Premier League is a very difficult championship. Should Manchester City pay £80m for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu?

Leicester City has reportedly rejected Manchester City's £38m bid to sign their highly rated defender Caglar Soyuncu.  According to the Sun, the foxes want City to up their bid to £80-90m for the 23-year-old Turkish international who they feel possess similar quality to Harry Maguire {£80m} and Virgil van Dijk {£75m}.  Soyuncu is without doubt a top football who is growing in strength and stature under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers. But with City struggling in their defensive unit due to injuries to their top defenders Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, the need to sign a defender is now a priority.  But signing Soyuncu for £80m looks too desperate and a to many a complete waste of money.  So should City sign him for £80m or less?

O'Hara: Harry Kane will join Manchester City and not Liverpool

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara can see Harry Kane joining a title winning team in no distant future..  Roy Keane might have suggested Manchester United sign the England captain but O'Hara feels Kane will go to a more established club where he can start winning trophies and not a club a struggling club. Liverpool is also an attractive option but they've to prove this season they're good enough to compete with Manchester City on the domestic fronts.  Speaking to talkSPORT, O'Hara said: "I think if he is going to go it's going to be Man City; it's only Man City, for me, who can probably get him.  "Aguero is coming to the end and Jesus is a different type of player, so if they are to get somebody it would be Harry Kane. But does he want to leave Tottenham? And can they let him go? I don't think they can".
