Manchester United captain Ashley Young will not be joining Inter Milan next summer neither will he be signing a pre-contract agreement with other clubs having be given a one-year contract extension. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a huge fan of the 34-year-old and feels his presence at the club will be useful to the younger players in the team. Although, the decision to keep him at the club haven't gone down well with fan who vented angrily on different social medias. Some of the tweet reads; "How the might have fallen.. " Another aggrieved post reads: "The more Man U fans want to escape the more the owners give them pain". Another reads: "This Ole and Co. are really taking us for granted. You can't be renewing Ashley's contract while there are real loopholes to cover.. it's getting out of hand". Sad ones goes this way: "Why, just why would you do that? He is part of the dead wood that they need clearing out "This ...
Liverpool have topped Group E of the Champions League after beating Genk 2-1 at Anfield.
It was far from a straight forward win as Liverpool did concede a goal and had Alison Becker to thank for making exceptional saves in the final minutes of the match.
The Reds were ahead after Gini Wijnaldum found space inside the 12-yard box and directed a deflected ball into the back of the net. 1-0! and Jurgen Klopp could be seen pumping his fist to the air.
But minutes later, Genk equalized through Samatta whose bullet header flown past Alisson and into the net.. His physical framework was just too much for James Milner to deal with and that resulted to a goal.
For a while if felt like Liverpool were going to drawn the match but up stepped Oxlade Chamberlian who received a delightful pass from Mohamed Salah before turning instinctively and scoring the winning match.
Here are the five things we learnt
1. Oxlade Chamberlian is a born winner-
Chamberlian has now scored 4 goals in 4 games this season in which he has start. In fact, he has never lost a match in which he has scored for Liverpool.
Against Genk, he was fascinating to watch and his movement, marauding runs, dribbles and shoot was just too much for Genk to continue. He those deserve a start against Manchester City due to his ability to find the back of the net from both close and far range.
2. Fabinho and Wijnaldum were brilliant against Genk-
Fabinho and Wijnaldum were both industrious and dynamic in the base of the midfield. Wijnaldum did score a good goal to put Liverpool in front and he will be hoping from now on to add more goals to his game.
No doubt, Klopp will start both men against Manchester City.
3. Liverpool have now 28 matches at Anfield in 34 games-
Anfield is a fortress, Liverpool have won 28 matches in 34 games since Jurgen Klopp arrived the club in October 2015.
In fact, they've won 7 out of 7 matches while playing at home which goes to prove, Liverpool are exceptionally good at home.
4. Joe Gomez and Naby Keita have to improve if they want to play first team football-
Both players have to improve their form and fitness if they're serious about getting into the first team.
As it stands, Gomez will remain Liverpool's 4th choice defender while Naby Keita will be used sparingly to give the likes of Fabinho, Milner, Wijnaldum and Fabinho rest.
5. Genk is a good team and Samatta is a fantastic striker-
Genk were good to watch, they knew Liverpool will have the lion share of possession and create numerous goal scoring chances..
The game plan was brilliant; soak up the pressure, hit the Reds on a counter attack and if that don't work, score when a set-piece is given and they did.
They scored from their first chance and goal and would've equalized if not for Alisson Becker who pulled off two fantastic saves to deny them.
