Europe League beckons: Why Jurgen Klopp is very worried about Salzburg

Image
The reigning European champions are on the verge of exiting the competitions in the round of 16.

Liverpool could become the second team in 10 years to exit the Champions League in the group stage since AC Milan. But to prevent that from happening Jurgen Klopp's men must beat Salzburg at Red Bull Arena which frankly is no easy feat.

Salzburg is no push over and Klopp know this. He watched as Jesse Marsch men came back from a 3-0 defeat in the first half to draw 3-3 in the second half. It took a moment of pure genius from Mohamed Salah to find the winning goal and salvage respect from the home side.

Now, Austria team have an opportunity to create history, they've the chance to dump Liverpool out of the Champions League by beating them at home and progressing to the round of 16.

It won't be easy though but why would you doubt them knowing that Liverpool's defence is very weak and porous.

This season, the Reds have played 9 games at Anfield and every visiting team, starting with Norwich City have scored against them. In fact, they've kept just 3 clean sheet all season which goes to prove there's a problem with Liverpool's back-line.

Last season, they conceded just 22 Premier League goals all season and 33 in all competition but this season, they've conceded 15 goals in just 22 games played.

Defensively, Liverpool are weak and that is main reason they back at square one, hooping like last season a saving dive, shot or quality help to reach the Champions League round of 16.

Alisson Becker saved Piotr Zielinski shot to deny Napoli a round of 16 berth and Liverpool a chance to win the trophy which they did.

Against Salzburg, it might turn out to be the same, success is waiting but Liverpool just have to grind out or just maybe, luck has finally run out and disaster looms for Jurgen Klopp and his men.

No Ronaldo, no goals! Real Madrid in self destruct mode as Champions League exit looms

What an impact a single player can make in a team. Real Madrid had that player once in Cristiano Ronaldo, a superstar who single handily created chances and won matches on his own.  He was able to win 14 trophies with Real Madrid did also manage to become the clubs' record goalscorer with 369 goals and assists 114.. He is arguably the greatest player ever to play for Real Madrid but the mistake Los Blancos made was not to find an adequate replacement for the 40 goals per season striker.  Real Madrid are in self destruct mode evident from their present struggle and lack of consistency. This season Madrid haven't won back to back games neither have they scored more than 20 goals this season.  The goalkeeping department is presently in shambles, Thibaut Courtois have conceded nine goals in his last 14 shots. In fact, half of the 24 shots he's faced this season have flown past him. The midfield is decline while the attacker apart from Karim Benzema are not scoring goal...

Napoli ready to sell Lorenzo Insigne to Liverpool for $60m after player mutiny

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly sanctioned the sell of all his senior players after they bluntly refused to attend a training session scheduled to be held at the Castel Volturno training ground.  The training sesssion was meant to arrest their decline and help them keep pace with Juventus and Inter Milan who are pulling clear of the rest. Napoli are seventh in the Seria A table, 13 points behind Juventus after just 12 games.  The ring leader and captain of the team Lorenzo Insigne is free to leave Napoli this January if any club can offer $60m for his service. Jurgne Klopp is a huge fan of the 28-year-old Italian international and has never hidden his desire to sign him when he is available. Insigne is not the only player available, the likes of Piotr Zielinski, Allan, Kalidou Koulibaly, Callejon and so many more are free to leave this Janaury.

Why an injury to Roberto Firmino could end Liverpool's Premier League title chase

Jurgen Klopp once said Roberto Firmino is the world best striker and he wasn't wrong with that statement. Firmino might not be so prolific, he has something rarely seen in modern strikers.  He presses the opposition relentlessly, link up play intelligently and creates goalscorer chances for others. His on and off ball movement is exceptionally good. His daft touches, feints and close control are so good its reminiscent of Brazil legend Ronaldo Dilma.  What makes him really good his tenacious running and carve a goal-scoring opportunities for his strike partners- Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.  Do you know out of 50 goals Sadio Mane have scored for Liverpool, Firmino have assisted or have a hand in 32 of those goals. And out of the 76 goals Mohamed Salah has scored for Liverpool,  Firmino has assisted 35 of those goals.  Without him, Liverpool would've struggled to win all eight matches this season. Cause frankly, they don't have any other striker that c...

Injury blow: Pep Guardiola confirms Ederson will miss Liverpool clash

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Ederson will miss the trip to Anfield due to any injury..  He will be replaced by Claudio Bravo who he says is a good keeper and a two times Copa America winner with Chile.  Asked during his press conference if Ederson will be fit for the clash, Guardiola said: "He is not able to play tomorrow.  "On Sunday he cannot play. We have another top keeper. We won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup thanks to Claudio. He is an exceptional goalkeeper".  Asked if Manchester City are not vulnerable without Ederson deputizing in-between the sticks, Klopp replied angrily.  "Why should i not be confident about my players and my team? Why do you like ask me this questions? "I see him every day in training. We won't lose from Claudio. You have to respect him. He won the Copa America, respect that guy, he's an incredible goalkeeper".
